Team Climate-Resilient Gerlach wins $100,000 grant to reduce greenhouse gas emmisions to net-zero

Krishna Pagilla, Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) Department chair and Laura Haak, CEE research scientist, are participating in a multi-partner consortium led by Washoe County to help the rural community of Gerlach reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible by 2050.

Washoe County announced Team Climate-Resilient Gerlach earlier this month after winning a $100,000 grant for project through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energizing Rural Communities Prize. Other partners on Team Climate-Resilient Gerlach are the Gerlach Citizen Advisory Board and General Improvement District, Nevada Energy, Nevada Clean Energy Fund, nZero and the Burning Man Project.
