Civil Engineering Assistant Professor Renmin Pretell received the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute’s 2026 Younger Member Award on July 15 at the organization’s national conference in Portland, Oregon.
The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the EERI and the pursuit of its objectives in the early stages of their career.
Pretell joined the University of Nevada, Reno in 2023, coming from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he was a postdoctoral scholar. He holds a Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of California Davis. His research aims to advance the performance of infrastructure by integrating data, simulations and analytics with an emphasis on geotechnical earthquake engineering problems.
Pretell’s contributions to EERI include serving as co-chair for the EERI Student Chapter at UC Davis and involvement in the EERI Younger Members Committee (YMC). He has supported multiple EERI initiatives, including the YMC Webinar Series, Meet the Leaders events, workshops and technical sessions at annual meetings and the 12th National Conference on Earthquake Engineering. Pretell also served as YMC co-chair from 2023 to 2026. In 2023, he was recognized as an Outstanding Reviewer of Earthquake Spectra, EERI’s journal.
