Student Faisal Quraishi awarded prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship

The Office of Undergraduate (and Graduate) Fellowships proudly announces that undergraduate Faisal Quraishi has been awarded the prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship, one of the nation’s most competitive honors for students pursuing research careers in science, mathematics and engineering.

Quraishi, a mathematics major with a minor in theatre, was selected from a highly competitive national pool. As one of five University nominees, he stood out for his exceptional depth in mathematics, early enrollment in graduate-level coursework and sustained research involvement beginning in his first year.

His accomplishments include presenting at the Joint Mathematics Meetings and earning a National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates award. He also founded the National Set Championship, attracting more than 150 participants and fostering community in mathematics.

Beyond its prestige, the scholarship provides financial support, allowing Quraishi to further focus on research and academic pursuits. His work reflects advanced technical ability and a dedication to communicating complex mathematical ideas.

Quraishi’s recognition highlights the strength of undergraduate research at the University and shows his momentum towards a research-focused career in mathematics.
