Starting this Thursday, July 10, University of Nevada, Reno and Tahoe Institute for Global Sustainability professors will present at Alibi Public House at Incline Village in a series of informational talks about ecology, science, and Lake Tahoe. The talks are part of the Institute’s ongoing mission facilitate community engagement from local to global gatherings across the sciences, engineering, art, humanities, and journalism while promoting discourse, critical thinking, and collaboration across interested parties to solve society's pressing challenges.
The talks are supported by the Tahoe Fund, and being hosted at Alibi Public House in Incline Village, where anyone can join in the fun and learn while relaxing. There will be a series of four talks, starting on July 10 and ending on September 25. Speakers will discuss pressing issues in the Lake Tahoe Basin, including addressing ongoing plastic waste research, effects of wildfire smoke, the power of healthy meadow ecosystems, and how different local species are adapting to environmental changes.
For presenting University of Nevada, Reno faculty, Pints with Professors offers not only an opportunity to share their research locally, but also to inspire other community members through their passion for science to have larger discussions about sustainability.
“I’m thrilled to be able to share what we have been researching with local audiences,” said Sudeep Chandra, Ph.D., Tahoe Institute for Global Sustainability director and foundation professor of biology at the University of Nevada, Reno who will be presenting this Thursday, July 10 about plastics in freshwater ecosystems. “I hope that these talks will encourage people to get more involved in local science, ecology, and sustainability, and create a community passionate about protecting this shared mountain landscape.”
