The School of the Arts, part of The College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno, is seeking volunteers for the 2024 Reno Jazz Festival, to be held Thursday, April 25 to Saturday, April 27 on the University's campus.
For the 62nd year, the Reno Jazz Festival will welcome approximately 3,000 students, musicians and guests for the two-and-a-half-day event. Volunteers help to transform the campus into a hub for jazz, music education and innovation.
“In order to accommodate the many attendees, the Reno Jazz Festival relies upon the generous support of over 100 volunteers who serve as door monitors, timers, announcers and stage guides.” said Peter Epstein, director of the Reno Jazz Festival. “Volunteers help to ensure that the Festival runs smoothly as we help foster the growth of the next generation of jazz musicians.”
Volunteer shifts take place in both the morning and afternoon on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27. One volunteer shift generally averages five hours. All volunteers receive a commemorative Festival T-shirt, access to all daytime events, and drinks and snacks. Lunch is provided to volunteers who work two consecutive shifts.
Additional volunteer shifts are also available on the evenings of Thursday, April 25 and Saturday, April 27. Those signing up for evening shifts would serve as concert ushers and will receive a free ticket to the respective events.
All volunteers are required to attend one of two orientation meetings. These are held on either Sunday, April 21 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. or Monday, April 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Joe Crowley Student Union, Room 356. Virtual options are also available upon request.
