Student Outreach Clinic now located at 745 West Moana Lane, Reno  

RENO, Nev. - (Dec. 14, 2021) — Northern Nevadans who are uninsured, underinsured or without a social security number can receive free medical care at upcoming University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) Student Outreach Clinics, December 2021 through March 2022, at its new clinical location on Moana Lane in Reno.

Rural Outreach Clinics will also be offered in Yerington, Lovelock, and Silver Springs, Nevada. UNR Med offers the free clinics in a continuing effort to assist the region's medically uninsured with needed health care services.

The Student Outreach Clinics are located on the first floor of the University Health building at 745 West Moana Lane Reno, NV 89509. The University Health building on Moana Lane is centrally located between Lakeside Drive and Virginia Street. RTC bus routes 1 and 6 have stops on Moana Lane, near the University Health building on Moana.

At this time, the Student Outreach Clinics and Rural Outreach Clinics do not have COVID-19 vaccines for patient distribution. Vaccination distribution is administered on a county-specific basis in Nevada. For county-specific COVID-19 vaccine distribution plans, please visit Immunize Nevada.

Women’s Health Student Outreach Clinic at the University Health building on Moana Lane:

UNR Med is adhering to the following COVID-19 patient health and safety measures:

Appointments are not required at the Student Outreach Clinics or the Rural Outreach Clinics and walk-ins are welcome. However, if patients prefer to schedule an appointment for a specific time, patients may call (775) 391-0632 or email studentoutreachclinic@med.unr.edu. Patients will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms when scheduling appointments and again when arriving for appointments. Spanish translators are available at all clinics. Facial coverings are required. All patients are required to wear facial coverings to their appointments in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. Patients are asked to come to their visit alone, all guests will be asked to wait in the car unless they are needed to assist the patient. 

Student Outreach Clinic services offered:

The Student Outreach Clinics offer a variety of services, including: adult and children’s influenza vaccinations (NOT including COVID-19 vaccinations), pap smears, pregnancy testing, gynecological exams, IUD services, breast exams, STD testing, mammogram referrals, as well as pediatric services such as head start physicals, sports physicals, well checks, sick visits and immunizations for children. The clinics also offer general physicals, blood pressure monitoring, x-rays, immunizations for all ages and lab services including, cholesterol checks and blood glucose monitoring. Dental and optometric services are not provided at the Student Outreach Clinics in Reno.

A new women’s health service being offered at the Student Outreach Clinics at the University Health building on Moana are free Mirena intrauterine devices (IUDs), which are available to both uninsured and insured patients, made possible through grant funding. IUD supplies are limited. Patients interested in IUD services may call (775) 391-0632 or email studentoutreachclinic@med.unr.edu to schedule an appointment, or walk-ins are welcome at any women’s clinics.

Rural Outreach Clinic services offered:

The Rural Outreach Clinics offer blood pressure and blood work, diabetes screening and counseling, clinical and physical evaluations, adult and children’s influenza vaccinations (NOT including COVID-19 vaccinations), and women's health services. Appointments are not required. Patients are seen on a first-come, first-serve basis. UNR Med offers the free monthly clinics to the region’s uninsured and underinsured as a way to give back to the community and prepare medical students as future physicians. Licensed faculty and clinical community physicians supervise the medical students and the care patients receive.
