Another round of postseason awards has poured in, and head coach Eric Musselman has been named the District VIII Coach of the Year by the United States Basketball Writers Association. Senior Marcus Marshall and sophomore Cameron Oliver received All-District honors. 

After inheriting a program with just nine wins the season prior, Musselman has become just the second coach in Wolf Pack history to lead his team to back-to-back 24 win seasons in his first two years. Musselman brought the first regular season title to Reno since the Pack’s last year in the Western Athletic Conference in 2011-12. Under Musselman, Nevada hasn’t lost back-to-back games this season and is 28-4 at home in his two seasons as the leader of the Pack. 

Senior Marcus Marshall was named Newcomer of the Year by the conference media and received first team honors. Marshall, who transferred to Nevada from Missouri State and is playing this year after sitting out last season, is currently averaging a league-best 19.7 points per game. He’s topped the conference nearly all season. The sharp shooter is also averaging 3.4 field goals per game. Marshall is just the third player in Mountain West history to eclipse 100 threes made in a single season and currently sits at 106, three short of the No. 2 spot in the conference record books. Marshall broke the single season threes made Nevada record earlier this year at UNLV and has proven to be a high scoring machine for the Wolf Pack. 

Sophomore Cameron Oliver also earned first team honors and was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Year. Oliver has continued to be a menace at the rim time and time again. He averages 2.6 blocks per game and has consistently been at the top of the conference in that category as well as top 10 in the nation. Oliver is also averaging 8.5 rebounds per game and averaged 9.7 in conference play. A well-rounded player, Oliver nets 15.7 points per game and has wowed fans in Lawlor Events Center for two season now with his dunks.
