As the RTC prepares to break ground on the Virginia Street RAPID Transit Extension Project in 2018, utility exploration work is getting underway. The work will begin November 7th and last about three weeks. The majority of the work will be taking place between Plumb Lane and Liberty Streets with some work happening near the University of Nevada, Reno.

Throughout the work, one travel lane will be maintained in each direction as well as left turn lanes at major signalized intersections. Driveway closures of one hour or more are possible during construction activities. The RTC and Sierra Nevada Construction (SNC) will be working closely with nearby residents and businesses to inform them about the utility work, and businesses will remain accessible. Anyone whose driveway will be closed temporarily to complete the work will also receive 18 to 24 hours notice and the closure will be of short duration.

The Virginia Street RAPID Transit Extension Project will extend the RTC's RAPID line up to the University, linking campus with downtown and Midtown. The project also involves constructing wider sidewalks that are accessible to everyone in the Midtown area and will enhance the Midtown experience. Bike lanes will also be added near the University campus. The project will enhance safety for everyone throughout the Virginia Street corridor and connect the public to jobs and educational opportunities through transit. More information on the project and updates are available
