Each year, the University of Nevada School of Medicine and Renown Health Foundation join together for the Artist in Residence Program. Thursday, May 12, from 3:30 to 6 p.m., the Tahoe Tower Lobby at Renown Regional Medical Center will transform into an art gallery to showcase the original artwork of three medical school students who recently completed the program.
For more than 15 years, this elective course has encouraged fourth year medical school students to explore the connection between medicine and the arts. Throughout the semester, students in the Artist in Residence program complete artistic works in any discipline: literary, performance arts, musical, visual, and even new media.
The program is intended to provide a variety of artistic avenues for the students to experience the healing power of the arts. The program focuses on the importance of observation, analysis, empathy, and self-reflection - all of which are critical to quality medical care and healing.
Students Christopher Robertson (wood sculpture), Daniel Ignatiuk (music production) and Gerrit Dunford (music and lyric production) will be at the show and reception and available to discuss their work.
The reception is free and open to the public.
