University of Nevada Cooperative Extension's Herds and Harvest Program is offering a "Small Scale Goat Production" workshop 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Nov. 4.

"Recently, Nevada residents have become more interested in goats," said Extension Educator Steve Lewis, who helped coordinate the class. "Those interested want to make the most of the goats, including as pets, for hair, for weed management, for milk, for meat or for other reasons. This workshop will help people learn all about the different uses of goats."

Topics include:

• Nutrition, taught by Sheep and Goat Specialist Susan Schoenian, with University of Maryland Cooperative Extension
• Facilities, taught by Schoenian
• Meat goats and kid marketing, taught by Meat Science and Food Safety Specialist Amilton De Mello, with University of Nevada, Reno's College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources and Cooperative Extension; and Extension Educator Randy Saner, with University of Nebraska, Lincoln
• Fiber goats and hair marketing, taught by Anne Bartley, with the Amargosa Bar Ranch
• Milk goats, and milk and cheese marketing, taught by Suzy Bennett, with Laughlin' Stock Farm
• Pack goats, taught by Charlie Goggin, with Critter Farm
• Work goats for weed abatement, taught by Weed Warrior Gloria Montero
• Economics and income/expense analyses, taught by Extension Educator Carol Bishop, with University of Nevada Cooperative Extension
• Goat associations and reference materials, taught by Nevada Goat Producers Association President Carl Clinger
