The Summer Job & Internship Expo garners record turnout

More than 700 students explored job and internship opportunities with 50 local and regional companies

The Nevada Career Studio hosted the second annual Summer Job & Internship Expo Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015. The number of companies and participants at the annual expo has grown since last year's event. In February 2014 there were 31 employers and 305 participants in attendance. This year's career expo, which spanned over three hours, attracted 50 employers and 825 participants, 707 who are current students at the University. Participants were able to speak directly with organizations to inquire about job opportunities and potentially interview for available summer positions.

Students of all disciplines connected with business professionals from various industries throughout the region. The employers included 43 local and regional employers and seven campus employers. Companies in attendance included Tesla Motors which held its first recruiting visit to the University. Student interest in meeting with Tesla recruiters was clearly visible; at one point the line reached out the door.

Tanya Flint, who is pursuing a mechanical engineering degree and a master's in business administration, feels that University students are prepared to enter the workforce, specifically for companies such as Tesla Motors.

"I think the University has done a great job at preparing students for a job like this." Flint said. "The hands-on classes I've taken are relevant and I think they really prepared me for the future."

Aaron Anderson, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering at the University, says that innovation is what sets University students apart from other applicants.

"I think this generation is very cutting edge." Anderson said. "We're always looking for the next best thing and constant improvement for what's already out there."
