With the goal of providing more services for the medically uninsured in Washoe County, the University of Nevada School of Medicine has scheduled Student Outreach Clinics for the following dates in January 2016:
• Combined general and pediatric clinics will be held Jan. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon and again on Jan. 26 from 6 to 9 p.m.
• A women's clinic will be held on Jan. 23 from 8 a.m. to noon.
The clinics offer a variety of services. Pediatric services include head start physicals, sports physicals, well checks, sick visits and child immunizations. The women's clinics offer pap smears, pregnancy testing, gynecological exams, breast exams, STD testing and mammogram referrals. All clinics also offer lab services like cholesterol checks and blood glucose monitoring. In addition, the clinics also provide immunizations and x-rays.
Clinics are held at the School of Medicine's Family Medicine Center, located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus just north of Mackay Stadium off of North Virginia Street. Take RTC bus route 7 to North Virginia Street or the free Sierra Spirit bus.
Student Outreach Clinics are a free service providing much needed care for Washoe County's medically uninsured population. Clinics offer physicals for work or school, EKGs, blood pressure monitoring, referrals and selected lab services at discounted fees.
Under the direct supervision of licensed faculty and community physicians, medical students from the University of Nevada School of Medicine offer monthly Student Outreach Clinics providing free care to the medically uninsured. No appointment is necessary for clinic patients who are seen on a first come, first served basis. Spanish translators are available as needed.
