A total of 5,837 hours of community service were completed by Wolf Pack student-athletes in 2014-15, making Nevada the winning school in this year's Mountain West Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Community Service Challenge.

"We are honored to win the Mountain West SAAC Community Service Challenge this year. Winning this award has been one of the goals of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee since we joined the Mountain West," said Rhonda Bennett, senior associate athletic director. "Our student-athletes dedicate so much of their time and energy to giving back to the community that supports them so much, and we are so proud of their commitment and the leadership that our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has shown to encourage their teammates to give back."

The conference-issued challenge ran from April 2014 through February 2015. The Nevada cheerleading squad led the way with 1,605 hours of community service within the past year and combined events and drives featuring multiple teams totaled nearly 1,300 hours.

"It is an honor for our school to receive the Community Service award from the Mountain West Conference," said Julia Shelbourn, current SAAC President. "Our entire athletic department accumulated 5,837 community service hours throughout the year proving that we are determined to give back to our community and be positive role models to children in the Reno area."

The numbers from the community service activities average out to 14 hours per student-athlete and 389 per team. Last year, Nevada finished third in the competition with 3,398 hours, while Fresno State won the challenge by totaling 4,225 hours.
