Get to know the newly inaugurated ASUN president and vice president with five simple questions

The 2015-2016 Associated Students of the University of Nevada president and vice president were inaugurated Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Caden Fabbi, the 112th ASUN president, and Jessica Salsman, the 112th ASUN vice president, have a shared vision of creating a more unified campus.

Here’s what the University’s newest executive officers have to say as they “Take Five” to talk about their new roles.

1. What are the top five things you want to accomplish in your new role?

Caden:

  • Implement a new, long-term strategic vision for the Associated Students
  • Revitalize Nevada student traditions
  • Enhance existing ASUN services
  • Increase entrepreneurial opportunities by advocating for student-run businesses
  • Create a culture of leadership development and growth

Jessica:

  • Create a better community among clubs and organizations through programs during tradition weeks
  • Expand the Pack Internship Grant Program
  • Provide frequent volunteer opportunities that are more accessible to students
  • Revitalize the Blue Crew so students are excited about all types of athletics events
  • Hold ASUN officers more accountable in all duties, specifically with outreach efforts\

2. What are your top five must-haves in your office?

Caden: “Scratch-off world map, Nevada flag, blanket and pillow for overnighters, pictures of family, friends and girlfriend and good speakers.”

Jessica: “A mini fridge, of course! A hidden stash of candy, designated area to leave clothing items, mirror and pictures of my friends and family.”

3. What is your favorite part about attending the University?

Caden: “I came to this University completely naive to the opportunities that this campus has to offer. I was truly overwhelmed when I came to campus and learned that college is not just about going to class; some of the best learning opportunities happen outside of the classroom, where you reinforce what you have learned. My favorite part about the University are the boundless opportunities to learn and grow.”

Jessica: “I love being on this beautiful campus. It’s such a welcoming environment with beautiful buildings and kind people. I love being somewhere where it is fun to walk around campus.”

4. What is your biggest “Pack” pet peeve?

Caden: “When students wear hats, sweatshirts, etc. from another University. Every time I see this, I have the urge to scream: What are you wearing!?

Jessica: “My biggest pet peeve is a little bigger than just our campus community. It really bothers me when I hear someone say, ‘This University is pretty but the city of Reno is ugly.’ There are so many beautiful things about this city if people would just try and explore. If we want to be a university town, we need to look at the Wolf Pack community and the Reno community as one.”

5. What is your biggest accomplishment?

Caden: “Being elected as the new president for the Associated Students of the University of Nevada is, honestly, the most humbling and incredible accomplishment of my entire life. Knowing that I have the responsibility of speaking on behalf of more than 16,000 undergraduate students is something that I will never take lightly, but is also something that I am incredibly proud to have the opportunity to do.”

Jessica: “I would say being elected ASUN Vice President, but actually pushing myself to run for the position has been my biggest accomplishment. Stepping out of my comfort zone has helped me grow so much.”
