Viera goes above and beyond in duties at Admissions and Records

Angela Viera, Academic Advising Report Analyst in Admissions and Records, has been named August's Classified Employee of the Month, the Staff Employees Council announced recently.

Viera, according to nominator Candace Bortolin of the School of Social Work, is one of the true "go-to" individuals in Admissions and Records.

"She handles all questions with grace; she is approachable and willing to entertain questions even if not directly related to her responsibilities; she goes above and beyond to be helpful," Bortolin said of Viera. "If she doesn't have the answer to a question she knows whom to seek out to pose the question and once she gets an answer she then informs - she has never not returned a phone call or left a question unanswered - never."

Bortolin said that in her own role as a student advisor, the questions she often asks Admissions and Records can be varied and complex. Yet no matter the question, Viera is always "patient and kind, no matter how challenging a student or concern may be."

"Angela has built relationships throughout campus and is able to help so many students and university employees through these relationships," Bortolin said. "Her level of professionalism in dealing with students and employees reflects well on the university as a whole.

"Her professional approach, demeanor and attitude are all reasons why ... she is simply outstanding."

For her own part, Viera, who lives in Fallon, said that as an Academic Advising Report Analyst, it is her job to process forms associated with such important decisions as Change of Major, Change of Minor and Exceptions. She also is charged with verifying that students have met their degree requirements for graduation.

"It's very gratifying seeing students meet the requirements and graduate from the university," she said.
