Nevada comes to life through vibrant photographs of cherished state lands in the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology's 2015 calendar. For the first time, it highlights photographic work submitted by individuals around the community.
The 2015 Nevada Geology Calendar features a different geologic topic for each month, reflecting the diverse land and terrains of the Silver State. Locations include: Snow Covered Lacustrine Sediments, Pahranagat Shear Zone, Sandstone, Natural Arches, Hot Springs, Las Vegas Valley, Metamorphic Rocks, Ruby Mountains, High Alpine, Folded Rock, Black Rock Desert and Abandoned Mine Safety.
Simultaneously, the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology photo contest invited Nevadans to submit personal entries for consideration. First-place winner, Gregg Beukelman, took the title with the February photo of "Cathedral Gorge State Park, Lincoln County." Other honorable mentions include second-place winner, Chip Carroon, third-place winner, Angel LaCanfora and fourth-place winner, Bryan Norman. Bureau employees and geologists also contributed visuals to the collection.
The calendar, designed by staff members Jack Hursh, Jennifer Vlcan, Chris Henry and Nick Hinz, is printed in full-color and will be sold at $15 each. A limited supply will be printed, and copies can be reserved at http://www.nbmg.unr.edu/sales/. In addition to the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology website, purchases can also be made at the Great Basin Science Sample and Records Library, the University's Nevada Wolf Shop, Sundance Books and Music and The Flag Store. Discounts are provided for group purchases: 5-10 calendars (10 percent discount) at $13.50 each and 10+ calendars (20 percent discount) at $12 each.
If an order for five or more calendars is placed, the shopping cart will complete your order showing the regular price. When the order is processed, it will reduce your total to reflect the discounted price before submitting the charge to VeriSign/PayPal. Only the discounted amount will be charged, and that discounted amount will be on the receipt that is sent with the package.
As the holidays arrive, consider purchasing this calendar as a gift that can be a beautiful visual keepsake.
