TO: University Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: Jane Tors, Communications Director

The Reno Police Department has confirmed this afternoon, shortly after 2:00 p.m., an active-shooter incident occurred in a Renown Regional Medical Center medical office building at 1500 East Second Street in Reno. The University of Nevada School of Medicine has medical offices in the building and we are relieved to report UNSOM officials have received confirmation that all UNSOM faculty and staff at that location are accounted for and safe. Reno Police Department and Renown Health have issued notices confirming the threat is clear.

While we do feel it important to share this information with University faculty and staff, further communication of event details will be the responsibility of the appropriate, responding agencies at the scene.

All University faculty, staff and students are encouraged to register with the University's emergency messaging system at http://www.unr.edu/general-information/emergency/alerts. The program sends a text and/or email message to all enrolled cell phones and email accounts in the event of an emergency at the University.

We are keeping those impacted by this incident in our thoughts
