Walsh named interim associate VP for Facilities

Longtime University of Nevada, Reno Construction Services Director John Walsh has been named Interim Associate Vice President for Facilities, Vice President for Administration and Finance Ron Zurek announced recently.

Walsh, who has been with the University since 2001, replaces Steve Mischissin, who has accepted a facilities-related Director position at Rochester University in Rochester, N.Y.

“John has an extensive background in the private and public sector, first as an architect and business owner for more than 16 years, and now nine years of service here at the University,” Zurek said.

Walsh joined the University as an Assistant Project Supervisor. In 2004, he was promoted to Director of Construction Services. In addition to his regular duties, Walsh also assumed the role of acting Director of Planning and Design and Liaison/Coordinator for all campus research projects, working directly with the Vice President for Research.

Some of the major University projects Walsh has managed include the Redfield Campus’ Nell J. Redfield Building and the High Technology Center, and the Joe Crowley Student Union. He was most recently involved in the feasibility planning for a proposed new “living learning community” residence hall, Zurek said.

Walsh has degrees from both the University of Idaho (bachelor of architecture, 1985) and the University of Nevada, Reno (associates of science from the College of Engineering), and became a registered architect in the State of Nevada in 1989. A fourth-generation Nevadan, Walsh is a Reno native and graduate of Reno’s Bishop Manogue Catholic High School.
