RENO, Nev. — The University of Nevada, Reno, in collaboration with the Great Basin College, Truckee Meadows Community College and Western Nevada College, will hold “Health and wellbeing: Exploring circumstance, community, and culture,” the 2025 Northern Nevada Diversity Summit, on April 14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Joe Crowley Student Union. The event is open to faculty, staff, students and community members.

During this free, one-day conference, attendees will participate in workshops, panel discussions, research presentations, poster presentations and dialogue sessions in support of promoting health and wellbeing for all Nevadans.

“Health and wellbeing are priorities we all share. The 2025 summit serves as an opportunity for Nevadans to share health-related wisdom derived from the rich and varied lived experiences we represent. The summit also serves as an occasion to identify effective and S.M.A.R.T. approaches to health promotion and disease management,” Melanie Duckworth, Ph.D., executive director of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, said. “As summit presenters and attendees, we recognize the influence of lived experiences, social connections and cultural perspectives on our health and wellbeing. As Nevadans, we commit to the ideal of good health for every single member of our community.”

Sessions during the summit will encourage attendees to engage around the many ways that health and well-being are experienced across the lifespan. Topics will explore the life circumstances that impact physical and mental health and access to healthcare, the role of community in managing physical and mental health challenges, the influence of identity and culture on health behaviors and outcomes, and the role of digital tools and telehealth in advancing health equity.

The Northern Nevada Diversity Summit is a system-wide collaboration that provides annual professional development opportunities to foster a supportive and inclusive environment in higher education.
