Abstract
As children become members of society, understanding the factors that shape antisocial behavior during adolescence and emerging adulthood is important due to its links with substance abuse, violence, and criminal involvement. Prior research suggests that parenting practices play a significant role in behavioral development, with authoritative parenting often associated with more adaptive outcomes. This study will examine whether parenting warmth and harshness moderate the relationship between psychopathic traits and antisocial behavior in emerging adults. Using self-report measures of psychopathic traits (YPI-S), parenting practices (EMBU), and antisocial behavior, this work seeks to better understand the role of family environments in shaping behavioral outcomes. Findings from this research may contribute to a greater understanding of factors that promote risk and resilience and help inform future prevention and intervention efforts.
