Abstract
Contradictory to traditional theory, recent research reveals that sensory systems initially rely on global properties that allow for a faster, holistic perception of the environment. While studied independently in vision and audition, research has yet to be done in the multisensory domain. This experiment will examine how multisensory global-scene processing occurs by having participants rate five global properties of naturalistic scenes across visual, auditory, and audiovisual conditions. Using a within-subjects design, we will assess whether specific properties rely more on visual or auditory information. Results will provide multisensory processing information vital for optimizing for virtual reality and human-computer interaction
