Fast Fired Pottree

Discover a variety of fast-firing techniques, including raku, copper matte luster, alcohol reduction, fuming with chlorides, horsehair, and low-fire salt saggar firing. Improve throwing skills and explore new decorative processes.

About the artists

Randy and Don shaping and firing-glazing pots

Don Ellis is a professor and Fine Arts Department Chair at San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico. He has been a ceramics educator since 1986 and is known as a master of raku and copper matte glazes, having spent over 20 years mastering his special techniques. Don’s work is featured in Alternative Kilns and Firing and Mastering Raku.

Randy Brodnax is a dedicated teacher and storyteller known for combining pottery demonstrations with humor and engaging narratives. A master raku potter for over 50 years, he has been featured in numerous books and magazines and has given hundreds of workshops. Randy is also known for his entertaining culinary skills, often cooking gumbo while creating pottery.
