Service-Learning and Civic Engagement
The Office of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement offers University of Nevada Faculty, students, and community partners valuable information and resources pertaining to the pedagogy of service-learning. We support the development and implementation of academic service-learning courses campus-wide that provide meaningful student experiences with the community. To effectively engage in the processes of democracy, both during and after their college years, students will need to acquire, as part of their education, the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to participate as engaged, democratic citizens. Civic engagement can only come about with the development of a capacity for engagement. Exposing our students to experiences that address issues of power and privilege can only enhance critical thinking skills and encourage the adoption of values that foster the development of an engaged, democratic-minded citizen.
We are happy to report more than 40 classes, housed in 22 academic departments, across 12 colleges on the University of Nevada campus. We have just begun to compile the data, so check back to discover the amazing impact our University is having with our community.
