Patricia Richard holds a dual role as President Johnson's Chief of Staff and the University's Chief Diversity Officer. As Chief of Staff, she serves as an advisor to the President, oversees his activities and priorities, and connects the President and University to major constituents inside and outside the University. She teams with the President to ensure regular contact with prospective investors in the University and works with him and the Vice President for Development to layout appropriate goals and strategies for these investors. She works with others to prepare the President for speeches and other public functions and messaging opportunities, and ensures that the President's office functions effectively. Patricia directs special projects from the President's office, including university database security, chairing organizational resilience efforts, and managing the University's role during its presidential search. She also acts as a point of contact for dignitaries and political campaigns on campus.

As Chief Diversity Officer, Patricia is responsible for developing, in collaboration with multiple university representatives and offices, a diverse, inclusive and welcoming environment for all University community members. She established the Diversity Council made up of campus representatives whose primary responsibilities are diversity related, to better coordinate, promote and assess the University's diversity, equity and inclusion work. Patricia works with the Faculty Senate in developing the objectives for, and work done by, the President's Diversity Committees. She also represents the President on the Nevada System of Higher Education's Ethnicity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the Hispanic Serving Institute Committee.
