The fall 2025 semester was full of student growth, new experiences and exceptional achievement. Our students and faculty visited Paris to attend and report on the French Open at Roland Garros over the summer before we welcomed 90 new freshmen to the school, our largest class yet. There was much to celebrate, including the 10th anniversary of Noticiero Móvil and our float’s first-place win in the homecoming parade. Take a look back at the Reynolds School’s fall 2025 semester in review.
Bonjour, I mean, hello! Dean Yun Here with the fall 2025 Reynolds School of Journalism Semester in Review!
We have a ton of exciting things to recap about this Fall semester so let’s travel back to This summer where a group of students and faculty returned to Paris to report on culture, business, history and attend the French Open at Roland Garros.
During their flight, next to them appeared to be drones flying from our students during the summer course, Introduction to Drone Filming which had another successful cohort of students learning to operate UAVs safely. Five of them went on to earn their part 107 drone pilot license!
Landing back in Reno from our flight from Paris, we welcomed our largest class of incoming freshmen yet during J-FIT. Ninety new students filled our halls, getting a head start on what life at the Reynolds School will be like.
We were honored to welcome our 2025 Laxalt Distinguished Writer and longtime Nevada journalist and author, John L. Smith, to campus. Smith spoke about his experience reporting in Nevada and connected with students and guests while signing copies of his recently published book.
The University hosted Family Day, and it was a great opportunity to interact with our students’ families and share all the exciting happenings at the Reynolds School.
Our homecoming float took first place for the return of this year’s western-themed parade! Our “fake news jail” was a hit.
Noticiero Movil celebrated 10 fantastic years of bilingual storytelling with a big birthday party featuring a piñata.
The student-run outlet received recognitions from the City of Reno and Senator Jacky Rosen. Here’s to 10 more!
Our annual documentary film festival featured 6 student films, ranging in topics from punk music and equine therapy to lithium mining and ultimate frisbee.
We ended the semester celebrating a small but mighty class of graduates, all of whom I know will go on to make us proud!
Lastly our friends at KUNR, KNPB and all public media outlets in the US faced a devastating cut to their federal funding this year. We hope you’ll join us in supporting public broadcasting—a critical resource which serves our communities across Nevada and across the country. I am looking forward to a new semester and wish you all a happy new year!
