Gardening enthusiasts are invited to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the Master Gardener Program in Washoe County by enjoying the 2021 Northern Nevada Garden Tour, a self-paced tour of gardens in Reno and Sparks. This fundraiser for University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Master Gardener Program is offered by Rail City Garden Center, and is a family-friendly event showcasing various area gardens on Saturday, Aug. 21, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 22, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

“We are really happy to offer this opportunity for people to get outside and see some of the beautiful landscapes and gardens that folks in our community have been able to create in this high-desert climate,” said Washoe County Master Gardener Coordinator Rachel McClure. “Those who participate in the tour will walk away with inspiration and ideas from the area’s most successful Nevada gardeners.”

The tour is self-paced, and participants are able to visit as many of the featured gardens as they like. Participants will also receive a tour guidebook covering the gardens available for viewing.

The cost is $25 for one person and $35 for two, and children under 12 are free. Tickets are good for both days. All proceeds support the Master Gardeners Volunteer Program in Washoe County, which provides research-based horticulture information and programs to the community. Tickets are available online.

For more information, contact McClure at 775-336-0274 or email her. Persons in need of special assistance should call at least three days prior to the event.
