This March, University of Nevada students will most likely prepare for spring break by studying for midterms, gassing up their cars for road trips, or buying plane tickets to warmer climates. Before students leave campus for varied adventures, the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention Coalition will launch a "Safe Spring Break" campaign from March 12-15.
Whether students just stay home for the break, or travel across the country, the coalition's "Safe Spring Break," campaign hopes to encourage students to make decisions that will not cause harm to themselves or any person around them during their week off from school.
During the campaign, the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention Coalition will have "Safe Spring Break" pledges available for students to commit to making safe, healthy and individual choices over spring break, regarding more than just alcohol.
"The Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention Coalition wants students to have fun on spring break," said Scooby Meredith, coordinator of alcohol and other drug prevention programs. "But we want them to make the right decisions about drinking and driving, wearing sunscreen, and not getting sexually transmitted diseases."
Each day, the coalition's "Safe Spring Break" campaign will feature different activities. Two guest speakers will also present on spring-break-related topics, including Ruthie from the Real World: Hawaii.
The full schedule is as follows:
