Volunteer organization COVID Child Care provides assistance for families of essential medical workers

Undergraduate student Gary Nguyen spreads the word about volunteering through CCC to assist the medical community

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to sweep across the nation and the number of confirmed cases rapidly increases each day, the demand for essential medical workers is at an all-time high. For these selfless workers, “staying home and staying safe” is not an option with their sleepless nights fighting against this unprecedented, novel disease. Unfortunately, with schools shutting down and resorting to systems of Zoom-based classes, many medical workers are unable to find caretakers for their children.

Thus, COVID Child Care (CCC) was established to address medical workers’ increasing needs for household care. Our organization was started by alumni of Palm Desert High School in California to provide free services including (and most definitely not limited to) free in-home child care, tutoring, and grocery shopping. We have been able to grow tremendously these past few months and have established volunteering branches in Coachella Valley, San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, Seattle, and most recently, Reno!

I wanted to reach out to all the potential readers of NSights and Nevada Today to recruit any potential volunteers and spread the word to as many medical personnel as possible. To the potential volunteers reading this, please visit the COVID Child Care website to learn more about us and apply to be a volunteer. We especially need volunteers’ assistance on the weekdays when medical workers are the busiest! Some benefits of becoming part of the CCC Team include:

  • Emotional fulfillment from helping your community during this unforeseen global crisis
  • Community service experience (of course) for your resume
  • Verification for your community service hours
  • Becoming part of something bigger and giving back to the medical workers that have cared for us all these years

And please spread the word about our organization to any friends or family that would be interested in this volunteering opportunity through social media posts, email, or word of mouth. Any referral or recommendation is greatly appreciated! If you have any questions, please visit our website or send an email to reno.covidchildcare@gmail.com

And to the medical workers reading this, do not hesitate to visit the COVID Child Care website and click “Request Help” to be paired with our medical volunteers.

I wanted to thank you all so much for your selfless dedication to medicine and to our community. Without you, our communities would not be able to continue pushing forward towards a better and healthier future. As an aspiring physician, I can only hope to display your admirable bravery, perseverance, and dedication to patients in the future. Your selfless deeds inspire me to keep working hard in my studies and volunteering to prepare myself for my undergraduate and medical career. On behalf COVID Child Care and the community, I wanted to thank you so much for everything you have done and will do.

Finally, to everyone reading this, I hope you all stay safe and healthy, both mentally and physically. While these times are definitely filled with countless uncertainties, I’m certain that we can come together to support one another.
