Nanofabrication is coming to Northern Nevada

Nanofabrication is the set of techniques used to make modern solid-state devices for semiconductors, photonics, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and quantum applications. The Davidson Foundation Cleanroom, opening in spring 2025, will provide access to a suite of lithography, deposition and etch systems for use in both educational coursework and cutting-edge research. Lab Director Russ Renzas (Research Associate Professor in the Electrical & Biomedical Engineering Department) was previously director of device fabrication at Rigetti Quantum Computing and brings a wealth of experience in atomic scale processing and quantum device fabrication. With this facility, our students will have the opportunity to complement their education in device physics with hands-on experience in the sophisticated manufacturing processes underpinning nearly every piece of modern electronic technology.
