Industrial Engineering program

New IE program gets assist from Click Bond

With Nevada’s manufacturing sector on a growth trajectory, the College of Engineering launched an Industrial Engineering program — the only one in the state — in fall 2024. Housed within the Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering, the Industrial Engineering (IE) program draws students interested in optimizing systems for efficiency across industries like manufacturing, but also healthcare and aerospace.

It’s also drawing support from partners such as Click Bond, the Carson City-based company specializing in advanced fastening solutions for the aerospace, defense and industrial sectors. This spring, Click Bond Manufacturing and Process Engineering Manager Jason Shaffer is teaching Introduction to Industrial and Systems Engineering, part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the manufacturing industry.

“We do this by investing in people’s growth and development, always with an eye on the future, supporting the next generation of talent and building strong connections within the community,” Shaffer said.

He added that it's an important investment in Nevada’s future.

“As the manufacturing sector continues to grow in Northern Nevada, the unique skill set of an industrial engineer will only increase in demand,” Shaffer said. “It can be difficult to recruit qualified people from out of state to uproot their lives to relocate here. Having a local program makes it easier to recruit employees from our local area, invest in their development and continue growing our company and the industry.”
