Leading in asphalt innovation

The Pavement Engineering & Science program is at the forefront of impactful asphalt pavement research through the Asphalt, Innovate, Enlighten and Implement (AIEI) program housed within the Western Regional Superpave Center (WRSC). Established through a prestigious five-year, $5 million cooperative agreement with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), AIEI accelerates the adoption of cutting-edge asphalt technologies, bridging research with real-world implementation.

Building on the success of its 2018 FHWA cooperative agreement, the Pavement Engineering & Science faculty continue to lead efforts in advancing materials, specifications and tools that enhance pavement performance. AIEI fosters collaboration through technology transfer, workforce development and stakeholders’ engagement.
