Summary

Richard Clark is a 22-year veteran educator with the Washoe County School District, currently teaching at Reno High School and the Debbie Smith Career and Technical Education Academy. Born and raised in Reno, he attended Little Flower School and graduated from Bishop Manogue in 1998. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from the University of Nevada in 2002, later completing a Master of Arts in Teaching History in 2009.

Since beginning his career at Reno High, Richard has taught a wide range of courses, including U.S. Government, U.S. History, Alternative Education Science, Student Leadership, Freshman Seminar and Advanced Placement Government and Politics. For the past 18 years, he has also taught We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution, where his passion for civic education has led Reno High’s teams to five District Championships, six Nevada State Championships and eight appearances at the National Finals. Under his leadership, Reno High has earned four Top Ten finishes at Nationals, including a sixth-place national ranking in 2020.

Richard is a National Board-Certified Teacher and was named the Gilder Lehrman Nevada Teacher of the Year in 2014. He has served as the Social Studies Department Leader at Reno High for the last ten years and also coached football for 15 years. Beyond the classroom, he is dedicated to fostering leadership, civic engagement, and academic excellence among his students.

Above all, Richard is a humble husband to his wife, Kristin, of 21 years and a proud father to Avery (17) and Carter (13). His deep commitment to teaching, family, and community reflects his lifelong passion for history, politics, and inspiring the next generation of civic leaders.
