On October 12, 1874, the University of Nevada opened its doors to seven students in Elko, Nevada. Although an 1885 legislative bill moved the University to Reno, this moment in 1874 marked the humble beginnings of the State of Nevada’s original land grant university situated on the traditional homelands of the Northern Paiute, Washoe, Western Shoshone and Southern Paiute peoples.

Faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends from near and far all weighed in. The enthusiastic response was a clear reminder that there is a great deal of pride associated with our University. We are proud to present the University of Nevada, Reno's Sesquicentennial logo.
Let's plan a celebration!
Ideas are being gathered now and will continue to be gathered throughout the coming year as we plan for the University Sesquicentennial celebration.
The University’s Senior Leadership Team, Faculty Senate, and Staff Employees Council have been asked to lead discussions that will contribute to the development of the University Sesquicentennial activities. ASUN, GSA and other student groups are being encouraged to develop ideas. As part of the Wolf Pack Family, you are involved in numerous University communities; please talk with your colleagues and think of how your affinity group, academic area, advisory committee, alumni chapter, beautification team, community liaison, business leader or other area of interest might play a role in the University’s Sesquicentennial.
