2,533: Interim and Acting Administrative Appointments
Revised: April 2026
When vacancies occur in administrative positions with such short notice that regular recruitment procedures cannot be followed in time to fill the vacancy, an acting or interim appointment may be made. These appointments adhere to major unit bylaws where they speak to such matters. Where bylaws are silent, consultation with unit faculty and staff is advised. The President or designee makes such appointments, in accordance with NSHE Title 2, Chapter 1, Subsection 1.6.1.
In general, an acting role is for temporary vacancies where the permanent incumbent is expected to return and an interim role is for temporary vacancies where the incumbent has left the University or is for other reasons not expected to resume the position and a search will be conducted.
