Summary

Tamara Scronce was an active member of the Department of Art faculty from 1997 to 2022. During her 25-year career, she served in numerous roles, including Area Head of Sculpture, Director of the Master of Fine Arts graduate program, and Director of the School of the Arts (Art, Art History and Design/Music/Theatre and Dance). Scronce taught a wide range of 3D sculpture courses in addition to instructing a variety of courses in the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) advanced degree programs.

Research interests

Scronce's art practice explores mixed-media sculpture, installation, light, sound and video. She exhibits her work in solo, group and juried exhibitions and has participated in several collaborative projects. She has received various awards in juried exhibitions and multiple artist grants supporting her work, among them the distinguished Nevada Arts Council Artist Fellowship Award and two substantial University of Nevada, Reno faculty research and creative activity awards.

Rooted in a deep engagement with materials and process, Scronce creates visually refined works distinguished by careful craftsmanship and conceptual clarity. Her practice seeks to transform simple forms and materials into experiences that are both intellectually engaging and aesthetically resonant.

Awards

Scronce was awarded the University’s F. Donald Tibbitts Distinguished Teacher Award in 2017, her name inscribed on an engraved pillar in the Honor Court alongside previous recipients. Given in recognition of outstanding teaching, this award has been presented to Art faculty only twice since its inception in 1973. Scronce shares this honor with Professor of Art James McCormick (1989).
