Mechanical engineering Ph.D. student earns national poster recognition

Congratulations to Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. student Mehrab Lotfpour. His poster presentation, “Nanograined Multi-Phase Gallium Nitride Through Ultrafast Melt-Quenching: Formation Mechanism and Ultralow Lattice Thermal Conductivity,” was recognized at the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) Annual Meeting and Exhibition in early 2026.

The organization recognizes exceptional student work in several categories; Lotfpour’s poster received third place in the category of FMD Phase Stability, Phase Transformations, and Reactive Phase Formation. TMS announced the student awards in the May 2026 issue of the Journal of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society. Lotfpour is advised by mechanical engineering Associate Professor Lei Cao.
