Lynda R. Wiest, Ph.D., professor of Mathematics Education and Educational Equity in the College of Education and Human Development, has been honored with the Kay Gilliland Equity Lecture Award.

The Kay Gilliland Equity Lecture Award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to promoting equity, inclusion and social justice. It recognizes those who have worked to advance the values of fairness and equal opportunity, particularly in areas related to education, social systems or community advocacy. Recipients must be nominated and go through a competitive selection process.

As the award recipient, Wiest will travel to Denver in October 2026 to receive the award and to deliver the Kay Gilliland Equity Lecture, which will be titled “Equity Issues in K-12 Out-of-School-Time STEM Programs.”

Of the 18 awards and honors Wiest has received during her 30-year career at the University of Nevada, Reno, this will be her fifth national award/honor.

Wiest has served as a Professor of Mathematics Education and Educational Equity since 1996.
