Peter Reed, Ph.D., director of the Sanford Center for Aging at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, was honored with the Outstanding Faculty Committee Service Award during the university’s Honor the Best event.
Honor the Best is an annual celebration recognizing the outstanding achievements and contributions of the University of Nevada community. The event honors emeriti faculty members, faculty and staff members, and students.
Reed was recognized for his service on 57 committees during his 13 years at the Sanford Center for Aging. His roles included chair of the University’s Faculty Senate, chair of the Nevada System of Higher Education Council of Senate Chairs and founding chair of the University Community Engagement Committee. He also chaired eight faculty searches and recently led two Senate ad hoc committees focused on hiring practices and community engagement planning.
“Throughout my life, my core value has been service,” said Reed. “I offer my ideas and expertise in service of others and have always done so in my personal and professional life. Committee work is an extension of that and an opportunity to serve my colleagues and the people they serve as well.”
Reed joined the Sanford Center for Aging in September 2013 and serves as a professor of public health in the School of Public Health. The Sanford Center for Aging is a statewide center dedicated to serving older adults through interdisciplinary research, education and community outreach. He brought nearly 20 years of experience in aging research, practice, policy and organizational leadership.
“I plan to continue to serve the University in whatever capacity makes sense,” said Reed.
