As the fall semester gets underway, the John and Geraldine Lilley Museum of Art at the University of Nevada, Reno is inviting students, faculty and the community to experience a new season of art and exhibitions. Part of the College of Liberal Arts, the museum offers visitors an opportunity to explore a variety of artistic perspectives, ideas and cultural traditions through its rotating exhibitions.

This fall, the museum is presenting an exciting lineup of new exhibitions that span different mediums, themes and approaches to art. The season features “Earth’s Winding-Sheet,” “92 Events: A Fluxus Show” and “Gather-Carry-Keep: Basketry from the Great Basin,” each offering visitors unique ways to engage with art and its connections to history, culture and the world around us.

The exhibitions will be on view from Aug. 27 through Nov. 21, 2026, giving visitors throughout the fall semester plenty of opportunities to explore the museum and discover something new.

“Earth’s Winding-Sheet”

Curated by Executive Director and Chief Curator Stephanie Gibson, “Earth’s Winding-Sheet” explores the significance of the minuscule, bringing together artists whose work investigates some of our greatest challenges, the magic of the unseen and our place and responsibility within the natural world. Employing materials such as dust, spores and debris, the exhibition features work by Kim Abeles, Rebecca Cummins, Futurefarmers, Ruth Hilts, Brie Ruais, Jared Stanley, Sindhu Thirumalaisamy and Sining Zhu.

“I am endlessly fascinated with the materials artists utilize in their work. Relying on dust from the ground and soot from the sky, these artists compel us to think about how the minute is worth contemplating; it has import and consequence. After all, everything big in this world, eventually, becomes small,” Gibson said. “Referencing life, memory, death and ecological concerns, the artists explore how memory and meaning remain deeply tied to the earth. In a multitude of ways, “Earth’s Winding-Sheet” creates an atmosphere of contemplation and wonder, asking, 'What is at stake with what we don’t see?’”

“92 Events”

“92 Events” presents 92 works spanning six decades by American-born Swedish Fluxus artist Ken Friedman. Through conceptual, action-oriented and language-based works that engage with everyday life, Friedman challenges the notion of the artwork as a unique object. This unorthodox exhibition extends the length of the Lilley Museum’s Front Door Gallery and throughout the entire third floor of the University Foundation Arts Building. At the conclusion of the exhibition, visitors will participate in dismantling the installation.

“Gather-Carry-Keep”

“Gather-Carry-Keep” features a small collection of basketry from the Great Basin, borrowed from a private collection. The exhibition highlights the artistry and cultural significance of basket-making traditions from the region.

The Lilley Museum of Art’s fall exhibition series is supported by the College of Liberal Arts, GSA, ASUN, the Benna Foundation Endowment, the Lilley Museum of Art Director’s Circle and Friends of the Lilley. Additional support is from DigiPrint Corporation, the Nevada Museum of Art and Night Gallery. Founded in 1971 and renamed in 2019, the John and Geraldine Lilley Museum of Art houses a permanent collection of approximately 3,000 works. Through exhibitions and public programming, the Lilley Museum of Art advances the University’s educational mission by fostering dialogue, experimentation and critical inquiry through the visual arts.

These exhibitions are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. Throughout the exhibition season, the museum will present a variety of public programs, including curatorial talks, tours and artist lectures.
