From STEM to stargazing, 4-H summer camps will spark youth curiosity

University of Nevada, Reno Extension hosts overnight camps statewide

In a pond, surrounded by green grass and large shade trees, five youth in lifejackets, baseball caps and sun shirts splash in the water as they paddle their own yellow and orange sit-on-top kayaks.

This summer, Nevada youth can trade screens for starry skies and hands-on discovery as University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Program launches a lineup of overnight and day camps focused on exploration, skill-building and unforgettable experiences.

In southern Nevada, youth can head to Extension’s Nevada 4-H Camp Alamo, located about 100 miles north of Las Vegas, where three camp options introduce participants to outdoor adventure, STEM activities and creative expression on the 72-acre property that includes a pond, an archery range, a rock climbing wall and more.

Nevada 4-H Camp in Alamo

  • 4-H Shooting Sports Camp, May 27-29
    • Open to youth ages 12-16.
    • Camp registration fee is $140, plus Eventbrite fees; includes transportation from Las Vegas to Alamo, lodging and meals.
    • Registration is open through May 2, or until spots are filled.
  • 4-H Teen Summer Camp, June 9-12
    • Open to Clark County teens in grades 9-12 for the 26/27 school year.
    • Camp registration fee is $220, plus Eventbrite fees; includes transportation from Las Vegas to Alamo, lodging and meals.
    • Registration is open through May 22, or until spots are filled.
  • 4-H Pre-Teen Summer Camp, July 7-9
    • Open to Clark County teens in grades 6-8 for the 26/27 school year.
    • Camp registration fee is $150, plus Eventbrite fees; includes transportation from Las Vegas to Alamo, lodging and meals.
    • Registration is open through June 29, or until spots are filled.

Nevada 4-H Camp in Tahoe

Additionally, teens throughout the state have an opportunity to experience the ultimate adventure at Extension's Nevada 4-H Camp Tahoe located at Stateline. This camp will focus on building leadership skills while exploring the great outdoors, building confidence and making new friends. 

  • 4-H Teen Leadership Camp, June 28 – July 1
    • Open to teens, ages 13-18.
    • Camp registration is $250 and includes meals, snacks, lodging, educational materials and a camp T-shirt.
    • Registration opens May 1 and is open through June 12, or until spots are filled. To register, contact damonk@unr.edu.
