Welcome back, Wolf Pack

President Marc Johnson addresses the Pack on the first day of fall instruction

Fall is always a time of renewal. Over the course of our long and proud history, our students, faculty and staff return to campus each fall to seek renewal. They look to a renewal of personal dreams. A renewal of professional aspiration. A renewal of our collective hope for the future.

These are important reasons why we return to campus – to be a part of our special Wolf Pack community.

Our coming semester will be unlike any other. But I want you to know that we’ve been thoughtful and deliberate in our planning for the health, safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff.

We are stressing flexibility, patience and understanding as we begin this fall semester. We acknowledge up front that we will need to have all of these attributes, and many more, as we begin a fall semester unlike any other in our history.

Since our founding in 1874, our University has proven itself to be resilient in times of challenge. We are now facing the COVID pandemic and a moment where not all answers are clearly distinguishable. This is a moment, though, that I know we can get through together.

I hope you enjoy this video message.

Sincerely,
Marc A. Johnson

Hello, everyone. I'm Marc Johnson, President of the University of Nevada, Reno. Fall is always a time of renewal. Over the course of our long and proud history, our students faculty and staff return to campus each fall to seek renewal of personal dreams; a renewal of professional aspiration; and most importantly a renewal of our collective hope for the future. These are important reasons why we return to campus.

The special Wolf Pack community that is unlike any other. Our coming semester will be unlike any other. But I want you to know that we've been thoughtful and deliberate in our planning. We've been careful developing plans, policies and procedures that may take some effort. With these few rules in place — last count,
I think, we have 21 of these rules in our reopening plan – we remain confident that campus will be a welcoming environment where you can continue to learn, study, live and interact with the members of our University community.

We acknowledge up front that we will need to be flexible in this time of worldwide uncertainty. We will be flexible in understanding that we face circumstances that can change in an instant. We will be supportive of those who need accommodation. We have crafted a number of policies that have already helped guide a number of you toward the accommodations that you need. We will all need to realize that not everyone will be perfect. We will need to be patient in explaining our policies and procedures, probably many times, over the next few months.

But this is what we do. We share, teach and assist. We learn – together – by remaining flexible in our staffing and in our back-to-work plans as well as how we teach both in-class and remotely and how we are offering an in-person campus learning and living experience for our students to maximize their potential for success. We are confident that each of you will find what you need.

Since our founding in 1874, our University has proven itself to be resilient in times of challenge. We are now facing the COVID pandemic and a moment where not all answers are clearly distinguishable. This is a moment, though, that I know that we can get through together.

Welcome back, Wolf Pack, it's wonderful to see you here again.
