Women in northern Nevada will have more options and resources for their health care, thanks to the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) opening a new UNR Med Women's Health Center, offering obstetrical, gynecological, and midwifery care to women in Reno and northern Nevada.

UNR Med's Women's Health Center medical staff includes M. Pia Anderson, M.D., FACOG; Lynn Anderson, DNP, CNM; and Denise Rubinfeld, MS, CNM. The center is welcoming new and previously established patients. The dedicated team of women's health experts at the Women's Health Center are trained specifically in women's health issues and serve as an extension of services offered by primary care providers to address the distinct healthcare needs of women. The team works closely with primary care providers to ensure open communication regarding each patient's diagnosis and treatment plan.

Neda Etezadi-Amoli, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., clinical professor and interim-chair of UNR Med's department of OB/GYN, says UNR Med is pleased to bring this top-quality outpatient clinic to the growing northern Nevada community, especially as women's health continues to be a disparity for Nevada.

"Our team is dedicated to expanding access to outstanding and evidence-based preventive care which helps women stay healthy and improves overall well-being," said Etezadi. "We're excited about opening a clinical practice which will not only serve the health needs of women in our region, but will also train future health care providers about the importance of women's health across specialties."

The new Women's Health Center brings multiple benefits to UNR Med and women throughout northern Nevada. The UNR Med Women's Health Center services include: obstetrical care, midwifery care, well-woman exams, breast health, management of abnormal pap smears, menopausal management, nutrition services, STD testing, counseling and treatment, contraceptive counseling and management, management of abnormal bleeding, management of chronic pelvic pain, sexual health, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, HPV vaccination, infertility evaluation and management, vaginal infections and minimally invasive surgery.

The new center is a result of support from UNR Med and a generous grant from Nevada's Attorney General.

"The Women's Health Center is a shining example of how UNR Med continues to provide consistently exceptional care for our community," said UNR Med Dean, Thomas L. Schwenk, M.D. "UNR Med's longstanding community-based and community-engaged roots began nearly 50 years ago, and the legacy continues today. With the Women's Health Center, we're recognizing the opportunity to bridge the gap in women's health care by providing education and offering specialty health care services for our community."
