The third annual Civic Recognition Breakfast was held on campus Tuesday, April 17, and hosted by the Center for Student Engagement. Community partners, campus partners, supporters and students were honored. 

Congratulations Miyah Wilson

Miyah Wilson is this year's winner of the Richard and Bonnie Bryan Family Public Service Award. This award was established in 2017 to recognize one undergraduate student who has demonstrated an outstanding record of civic engagement at the University.

Wilson is graduating this spring with a major in biology and a minor in community health science. After she graduates in May, she will be attending North Carolina State University to complete her master's degree in higher education administration. During her at time the University, she volunteered close to 400 hours. 

Wilson founded Queen Connection Feb. 1, 2017. The Queen Connection is an on-campus organization which works to cultivate young women's minds by stimulating and challenging their personal, educational, professional and social aspirations. The club is able to connect women with positive mentors who will provide guidance, motivation, emotional support which will, in turn, create strong, confident, cultured, talented young Queens.

Throughout the past nine months, the club has doubled in size and expanded to include a mentorship pipeline for high school and middle school students. The club has developed partnerships with various organizations in the community. Led by Wilson, the Queen Connection partnered with Upward Bound to host their first Queen Empowerment Summit called "Claiming Your Crown."
