A new book, "Waiting for the Cars," features 218 of Alfred A. Hart's nineteenth-century 3-D railroad photographs of the construction of the Central Pacific Railroad through Nevada and California. The 3-D images were researched and digitally transformed by Reynolds School of Journalism Professor Howard Goldbaum. The book includes the required 3-D glasses. Published by the Nevada State Railroad Museum, the text is by railroad historian Wendell Huffman. In addition to the many images of locomotives and railroad activity, also included are photographs of towns, depots, and other structures from Sacramento to Elko and beyond. The book's website features sample pages of the book's text and 18 3-D images, plus other media.

The book is now available for purchase on its website, and is available at all Nevada Division of Museums and History gift shops, including in Reno at the Nevada Historical Society and in Carson City at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Distribution to other local book outlets will follow.
