University honors students, faculty and staff at 'Honor the Best’

The University of Nevada, Reno honored its best on Wednesday, May 13 during the annual Honor the Best ceremony. More than 70 University faculty, staff and students were honored.

Awards presented included:

Distinguished Faculty: Richard Davies, professor of History

Distinguished Outreach Faculty: Edwin G. Smith, area extension specialist, UNCE

Distinguished Service: Leah Gorbet, controller, Controller’s Office

Classified Employee of the Year: JoAnne Gipson, program officer, Extended Studies

Cavanaugh Community Volunteer Award: Windi Goodman

Foundation Professors: Mae Gustin, associate professor of Natural Resources and Environmental Science; Ian Buckle, professor of Civil Engineering; Kent Ervin, professor of Chemistry

F. Donald Tibbitts Distinguished Teacher Award: David Ake, associate professor of Music

F. Donald Tibbitts Distinguished Teacher Award Runner-Up: Kristen Clements-Nolle, assistant professor of Community Health Sciences

Governor’s Award: Cadet Megan Ann O’Keefe

Henry Albert Senior Public Service Award: William Andrew Yancey Jr.; Abigail Lupena; Nipa Patel; Frances Arnold

Outstanding Graduate Student Researcher: Narasimharao Kondamudi
