Chart a course for an enriching summer

Join Summer Session 2008 at the University of Nevada for a wide variety of events to enrich and enliven your summer, including Watermelon Wednesday summer concerts on the Quad, Tuesday movies at the Joe Crowley Student Union plaza, a noontime summer lecture series and more. Most events are free and all are open to the community.

The Nevada Repertory Company production of “Henceforward,” and the Argenta Trio concerts on July 29 and 31 are presented as part of the 13th annual Artown festival during July. The month-long summer arts festival features more than 350 events produced by more than 100 cultural organizations and businesses in locations citywide, with major funding provided by the City of Reno.

Free Summer Lecture Series. Summer Session, in collaboration with departments and committees across campus, presents this new series offered on select Thursdays from 12:10 to 1 p.m. Bring a lunch and take part in a cultural dialogue as scholars and community leaders discuss literacy, international business, the environment, education, health and wellness and more on campus in the William Raggio Building, Room 2003.

Free Tuesday Night Movies. From June 3 to Aug. 12, take a break on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. Bring a blanket and low-back chair and enjoy free movies at the Joe Crowley Student Union plaza with free popcorn and drinks. Check out the Summer Session website for movie titles.

Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery presents Post-Petroleum: Envisioning the Future of Suburban Space in America. Developed and curated by artist Christine Pinney Karkow. July 1 to 31, Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Closing reception July 31, 5 to 7 p.m. This group exhibition reconsiders the future of American society when forced to navigate and live in the sprawling suburban spaces that we already inhabit when there is considerably limited access to fossil fuels. Nevada Repertory Company Summer Festival presents “Henceforward” by Alan Ayckbourn and directed by Sue Klemp. Free Summer Concerts and Watermelon on the Quad. Voted one of Reno Gazette-Journal’s “Best Family Outings” Concerts are presented by Summer Session in partnership with the University of Nevada Alumni Association. Bring a blanket or a low-back chair and join the fun from 6 to 8 p.m. on these Wednesdays:

Free Argenta Trio and Friends Summer Concerts, Nightingale Concert Hall. Join critically acclaimed faculty chamber music ensemble Argenta Trio, featuring John Lenz, Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio and James Winn, performing with a few of their friends from the music community on July 29, 31 and Aug. 2, 7:30 p.m.
