4-H Expo to be held at Nevada State Fair

For the first time, the 2008 statewide 4-H Exposition of companion animals, exhibits and fashion review will be held at the Nevada State Fair, Monday, Aug. 18 through Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Reno Livestock Events Center.

“We expect 200 4-H youth from around the state to participate and compete in a wide variety of events from speeches to a horse show,” said Steve Schafer, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development Coordinator.

Many of the 4-H youth have already qualified in county events or fairs. The 4-H Expo has been a statewide event for more than a decade that culminates the year-long educational programs the 4-H youth develop in their communities.

In addition to the public speaking/presentations event and the horse show, youth will participate in events featuring rabbits, cavies, dogs, poultry, clothing, wool projects, arts and crafts and photos.

The annual 4-H Ambassador interviews will also be held during the week, as well as recognition of a 4-H Volunteer leader of the Year. Presentations and judging culminate in an awards ceremony on Aug. 24 at 9 a.m., in the Livestock Show Ring.
