Sheppard Gallery to install student art throughout campus

The Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery is launching a loaned art program this semester, to exhibit original work by art department students throughout campus.

Marjorie Vecchio, gallery director, hopes "Art in Offices" will introduce talented artists to campus guests, faculty and staff, and other students.

"In the past, the College of Liberal Arts office has chosen approximately 10 pieces annually to promote student artists, create visual stimulation, and raise awareness of the importance of public art," Vecchio said.

"We're making original art available to all departments to create new environments and visual contexts for art appreciation."

Gallery staff will collaborate with department representatives to choose appropriate pieces, exhibit space and install the artwork. Loan agreements are offered for up to one year. Original work available includes printed black and white photographs of northern Nevada locations and colorful, narrative paintings that range in scale from small to up to more than five feet in height.

Gallery assistant and art student Kathy Wood manages the new campus-wide program. She may be reached at (775) 784-6658 to schedule an appointment.
