Faculty writing retreats
Faculty writing retreats are scheduled four times per academic year. The idea is really a simple one: we set aside time to write together. Anyone teaching at the University of Nevada, Reno is welcome to join us. Seating is limited to 10 spots, so reservations are necessary. Morning beverages and snacks, as well as box lunches are provided; all you need to bring is whatever materials and tools you need for the work you want to do.
There is something powerful and productive in the company of colleagues who are working on their scholarship, whether that be grants, articles, proposals, or something else entirely. These retreats are also a time to get to know your colleagues from other departments and disciplines; it's fascinating to hear about their work.
The main idea of a faculty writing retreat is to set aside time to work. It is motivating to be in the company of others who are also working; and the writing retreats are always scheduled just before a break in teaching schedules so faculty have time to continue their work afterward. The retreats take place on campus, usually in one of the conference rooms on the fourth floor of the Knowledge Center. Please try one, if you haven't already. And, of course, if you have any questions, just let us know by emailing Bill Macauley at email@example.com.
