About the performance
Apex Concerts opens its 16th season with “The New Frontier,” a program exploring discovery, identity and the emerging voice of American music. Violinists Chad Hoopes and Danbi Um join violists Masumi Rostad and Scott Lee, pianist Hyeyeon Park, and cellist Dmitri Atapine for an evening of warmth, lyricism and expansive musical landscapes. The program pairs the youthful charm of Samuel Barber’s Serenade for String Quartet with the graceful Romance of Amy Beach, among other selections, before culminating in Antonín Dvořák’s beloved “American” String Quintet — written during the composer’s time in Spillville, Iowa, and filled with radiant melodies, folk spirit and boundless optimism.
